YIP KOO SING

Andrew Lau's (the director) "The Duel" was not a good film by any means.  Poor script, bad directing, over-use of special effects, and way too much comedy for an action film.  The one thing that made the film bearable for a sitting for the entire film is Andy Lau Tak Wah.  Andy Lau is my favorite Hong Kong male actor.  When they casted him as the villain for "The Duel," I was dying to see the film just to see Andy play a bad guy for a change.  The story of the legendary duel between Yip Koo Sing and Tsai Mun Chi Suet has been played to death with over 10 films, numerous TV shows, novels and comic books so the remake in 2000 was obviously expected to sink big time.  Regardless, Andy Lau's portrayal of the villainous (and bad-as-hell buttkicker) Yip Koo Sing inspired this figure here.

This figure is my second male hair re-root.  I took an Andy Lau "Dance of a Dream" figure made by Hot Toys and sanded off his hair.  I then repainted  his face and rerooted him with black and white hair.  You can't imagine how hard it is to tie his ancient Chinese hairstyle.  The Hot Toys head is quite nice.  It's probably the best likeness of Andy Lau I've seen yet despite the various attempts made by both Worthfield and DID.  The only thing I didn't like about the sculpt is the grin.  Why do all toymakers make Andy Lau with a nasty looking grin all the time?  I just don't get it.

I sewed his inner white shirt (not shown), white pants, black Chinese outer shirt, metallic grey belt, and his outer shortsleeve coat.  I love the fabric for his outer coat.  Black background with silver dragon embroidery.  Way cool.  You can probably imagine how many yards of this stuff I bought just to have later right?

The body is a DML body.  I had to modify the Hot Toys head so the neckpost can fit a little better.  The black boots are from a German WWII DML figure.  The insanely cool die-cast sword with real wood scabbard is from the "Hero" figures made from Hong Kong.
