ROY BATTY

Rutger Hauer was one of the most famous stars in the late '80s and early nineties.  With major roles such as this, Blind Fury, Wanted Dead or Alive and a host of other excellent action films, I always wondered what happened to his career had he become the next Arnold or Sly.

The head from Jim Maddox was superb.  This was actually the second version Jim had sculpted.  The "spikey hair" version was better but it's long gone now.  This second version from Jim is great nonetheless.  I painted the head with acrylics, coated it with matte and glossed the eyes and lips with clear coat (like I do with all my painted heads).  Clear coats give heads that extra life and realism.

The entire outfit was purchased through Toy Syndicate.  I initially only purchased the Deckard clothing set from Toy Syndicate, but something went wrong with the order so I called them up.  Much to my surprise, the owner of Toy Syndicate was very friendly and helpful.  We spoke quite a long time over the phone about different things, about the hobby and so forth.  I mentioned to him about the site and my work; he checked it out and loved it.  While they did not sell an "outfit set" for the Android figure, the guy offered me to purchase a set simply because we talked and that he liked my work.  Very cool I thought.  When I actually received the order from Toy Syndicate, another surprise came, the owner of Toy Syndicate had actually given me an entire boxed Android figure for the price of just the outfit set!  Needless to say, I had to share this.

Here's a big shout out to Toy Syndicate for the excellent service and their "dedication to the hobby."  Had it not been for them, I'd probably hand sew Roy's entire jacket by hand.  Good lord, that would take at least a few months to complete.  The outfit set from Toy Syndicate is super, super nice.  Roy Batty's jacket is my favorite 1/6 leather coat ever.  As you can see from the pictures above, it is extremely well crafted.  He comes with a set of biker shorts, the dove, gray shirt and pants and a pair of boots.  I swapped the pair of boots out for a BBI Lucifer set of boots because the Toy Syndicate boots didn't look quite stunning.  That, and it doesn't fit Dragon feet too well.  The original Roy Batty figure from Toy Syndicate was pretty horrid.  The body is very similar to Hot Toys and the joints are loose out of the box.  The head is pretty salvageable, but I can't figure out what to use him for at this time.
