JACK TRAVERN - LAPD SWAT

Who would've known that Jan De Bont's 1994 action movie about a hot-shot cop would turn Keanu Reeves from a teenage skater punk star to a real action hero overnight?  1994's Speed was a non-stop action film that went down in the Dawg's archives as one of the best shoot-em-ups ever made.  Did you know that Jan De Bont also made Equilibrium?

This figure is essentially a kitbash.  All of the gear you see on Jack are all standard BBI, Dragon and Hot Toys equipment.  The only real "custom" work I did was sew a patch on his vest to house the three shotgun shells, punch knife and the pliers.  Other than that, I just outfitted him with the BBI uniform, vest, Hot Toys boots, DML SWAT glasses, etc.  The head and body is from DML's Josh figure.  The hair was close to Jack's hair in speed so I didn't bother modifying him.  Heck, I was so lazy I didn't even repaint him.  Regardless, you can't really do much to customize a SWAT figure since 100% of the equipment is already nicely made by the major manufacturers.  The best SWAT figure released to date is Hot Toys' SWAT version 2.0.  BBI's SWAT figures comes in at second place.  DML's don't rank anywhere because they suck.  The Hot Toys SWAT figure of Keanu was okay, although the gear is pretty outdated.  Essentially, you can make a pretty good Jack from Speed by just swapping out the DML Josh body with BBI's SWAT figure.

I sewed his inner white shirt (not shown), white pants, black Chinese outer shirt, metallic grey belt, and his outer shortsleeve coat.  I love the fabric for his outer coat.  Black background with silver dragon embroidery.  Way cool.  You can probably imagine how many yards of this stuff I bought just to have later right?

The body is a DML body.  I had to modify the Hot Toys head so the neckpost can fit a little better.  The black boots are from a German WWII DML figure.  The insanely cool die-cast sword with real wood scabbard is from the "Hero" figures made from Hong Kong.
