I started out getting a private commission with Jim Maddox to sculpt Al Pacino's head back in May of 2003. I later decided to switch to the Donnie Yen head instead because Jim took a super long time to get back to me. If there's one thing I hate about getting a private commission with Jim Maddox, it's the waiting time. A headsculpt commission can take anywhere from 6 months to a year and a half or two years. It's either because I don't have "pull" in the industry or I don't have the right connections. Regardless, the head you see here is another sculpt by Andrew Lin, and not by Jim Maddox. Andrew's sculpt, as you can see above, is well on par with Jim's sculpting talent. There are very few sculptors that have that "edge" when giving life to a 1/6 head. Both Jim Maddox and Andrew Lin have that. While the sculpt is not a dead bang for Al Pacino, it's recognizable enough and is rather decent. My Favorite
Quotes from the movie:
The suit is a Dragon produced suit. The body armor is slightly modified. It was originally white, but I used navy blue Rit dye to color it. The problem with Rit dye is that, if you don't leave it in long enough, you get a light blue color. If you leave it in too long, it will turn black. I didn't want black and got cold feet so I think I pulled it out a bit early. Maybe I'll redye the vest one of these days to a slightly darker blue. As I mentioned before, I feel that my painting skills are getting a lot better now. My first headsculpt paint job took 15 minutes. Painting the De Niro and Pacino heads took a total of roughly four hours. Yes, four straight hours.
