Michael Mann's gangland epic is one of the best films of all time. Not since "The Godfather II" has Robert De Niro and Al Pacino come face to face on screen. Two of Hollywood's best actors make "Heat" an unforgettable film - even if you hate movies. Everyone and their mother has, at one point in their customizing and kitbashing careers, has tried a "Heat" bash. I've made this Robert De Niro figure three times over using various headsculpts, including BBI's Lucifer and the Chinese released figure heads. The head was sculpted by talented Hong Kong sculptor Andrew Lin. I had the luck of scoring this head along with the Al Pacino and Bruce Willis sculpt through sheer luck. My painting skills have gotten progressively better as you can see from my earlier projects although it's still nowhere near where I want them to be. His black suit is from the 12" Reservoir Dog figures. Shirt and tie is from the 12" Detective series and shoes are standard Hong Kong police shoes from DML. His little earpiece I got from one of the Dragon CIA figures. This figure is a good example where the head makes all the difference in the world. I've seen many Neal McCauley figures done in the past but the gear is usually either a bit off or the head looks too cartoony. Andrew Lin's headsculpt looks great but Robert De Niro's wrinkles do look a little bit overboard. I'm not complaining; just picky. I should probably try to sculpt my own one of these days when my sculpting skills get better.
I custom made his ammo belt and added some M4 clips. Since they didn't really show what type of vest Neal wore in the film, I took a blind stab at it and added clips to the BBI Lucifer vest. The results look quite good and fits snugly under his jacket. I also made each of the guys a bag full of money. I used the Printminis site to scale down some $100 Ben Franklins in Photoshop. Next, I created an 8.5 x 11 paper full of the money (I think it came out to about 36 bills per page with margins), printed it and then took them to Kinko's. I didn't want to waste my ink on my printer and Kinko's copiers were built for big "mini" jobs like this. My Favorite Quotes from the movie:
