RICK DECKARD

Blade Runner was one of the few sci-fi films that took me forever to understand.  The first few times I watched it when I was young, I didn't know or understand what the heck was going on or I only remembered it vaguely.  The one thing that had me go "wow" everytime I saw it was the flying cars.  I must've lost my mind when I first saw the movie.  Unfortunately, like most sci-fi films, they lose their impact as time goes by and our technology gets better.  Remember when Terminator first came out?  I stayed at home for a whole week thinking Judgment Day will come.  Unfortunately for us, we gotta get up for work the next morning after Judgment Day.

The head is another Frontline head sculpted by Jim Maddox.  I took my sweet time painting the Harrison Ford head because I wanted it just perfect.  My first few painting sessions resulted in "okay" paint jobs so my later ones look a lot better because I spent a lot more time (a few hours to be exact) on each head. Because the head is the most important feature on a figure, it's worth spending more time on than anything else.  Like most skills, you progress over time.  I can paint much better heads now than a year ago or even sixth months earlier.  You learn gradually with time and by experimenting with different mediums.  Play around with shading, pastels, oils, enamels - whatever you can try.  Paints are rather cheap (other than artist oils) so you can experiment all you want.  But if you never try painting at all, you'll be exactly where you are.  So, the sooner you start playing around with paints, the faster you will progress.

The outfit set from the "Android Hunter" knockoff is excellent.  I purchased just the clothing set from Toy Syndicate.  The gun is made of diecast metal and is very, very heavy.  You have to see the set in person to really appreciate the detail and craft that is put into the coat.  I'm sure glad I bought the outfit set from Toy Syndicate (check out the Roy Batty figure for my explanation about their service).  The outfit comes with everything you see in the pictures.  You get the gun, holster, belt, shoes, socks, tie, shirt, vest, and overcoat.  Each part is intricately detailed as in the movie.  I can't imagine hunting for parts to make a Deckard outfit set if the Android Hunter clothing wasn't available.  Just too crazy to put the outfit together.

This figure is relatively easy to do because essentially, the only three things you have to do is get the head, paint it, buy the outfit set and you're done.  Toy Syndicate has gone out of business since, which is really just too sad because they were really cool.  Such is the nature of the toy business.  You can't keep designing great figures all the time and keep everyone happy.  But I think as long as you're doing what you really like, then it definitely shows and people will appreciate it all that much more.
