NATHAN ALGREN - THE LAST SAMURAI

The Last Samurai was a rather decent film.  Not a great classic, but not bad either.  The characters are well written, although I was hoping for a lot more action than what was done.  I've been wanting to make the Tom Cruise Samurai figure for a long time.  I even bought two heads from Lonnie's Frontline to do him, but with the new shop and my baby, I never had the chance to.

So it's only appropriate that I jump at the opportunity of buying a special commission from Heiko, a fellow customizer in Germany.  This Nathan Algren figure was a private commission from Heiko, who asked his friend Marius to make the armor and outfit.  As you can see from the pictures herewith, Marius' craftsmanship is simply jaw-dropping.  I probably cannot do better if I attempted my own Algren.  Each of the armor pieces are all hand-made and are completely removeable.  Even his sandles are made from string and his hakama are netted!

The head is from Frontline and Heiko painted it initially when I first got the figure.  I added a few more highlights and dry-brushed the hair some more.  I also added the two katanas from Mononofu.  Other than that, I didn't do anything except pay a hefty price for this figure.  I almost never purchase a custom figure (kinda defeats the purpose of customizing right), but this Nathan Algren "Last Samurai" figure is an exception.  He is perhaps one of the most finely crafted figures I have ever owned.  The detailing work on the armor, the outfit and sandals are just simply amazing.  Come take a look at him at my shop if you ever get a chance to stop by in the San Francisco Bay Area.
